Easy read of the poems in the images above:
Vanity, Femurs and Fears
I want to leave my femurs
to my kid, who practices drum set
for at least an hour a day.
My kid’s pile of broken drumsticks
makes me reluctant.
However, if they were less dedicated to breaking sticks,
I would not consider the heirloom value.
And if they were less dedicated to the drumming,
the broken sticks making a charnel house of a basement,
I would not have thought of this gift.
My reluctance is my own vanity
bringing uncertainty to my estate
and paradox to my parenting,
challenging my ego’s acceptance of death
and extending my fear of injuries beyond a coda
yet to be composed.
